Elementary Internship
Intern—Elementary Summer Day Camp
Program Description
In this program there are four groups of children, split by ages, with three to four interns in charge of each group.
The program focuses on:
- Educational and fun field trips.
- Academic enhancement (i.e.: creative thinking, math and english, health, nutrition, safety, etc.)
- Spiritual development.
- Encouraging kids toward higher education and college.
- Conflict resolution with peers<./li>
- Team-building with peers.
- Building images of self-worth and character.
- Working in the arts and cultural awareness.
- Community awareness (service projects).
- Physical fitness (swimming, gymnastics, etc.)
Camp participants also receive: breakfast, lunch, and weekend snack packs; back-to-school clothes, shoes, and school supplies.
Typical Weekly Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday approximately 7:30 AM-3:30PM; Wednesdays 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM (including Church, with a break between 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM). Times may vary.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Attend training during the first week and assist with program set up<./li>
- Supervise, along with two or three other interns, one specific age group of children (maximum twenty-four children).
- Each intern will rotate to help with duties outside of managing the children in their group (i.e., helping serve lunch, signing children in and out at the beginning and end of day, etc.)
- Prepare and teach Sunday School a minimum of two Sundays over the summer.
- Attend daily half-hour morning session for devotions and daily preparation, in addition to once a week session outside of Day Camp hours, to further Intern’s educational experience.
- Prepare and teach each week: Bible lessons, craft times, team-building games, community service, Magic School Bus Videos & lessons (team interns rotate these responsibilities).
- Chaperone, lead, and drive (if over twenty-one with driver’s license) children on field trips over the course of the summer.
