Free Neighborhood Health Clinic

Shepherd Community Center is excited to extend another opportunity to care for our friends in a very much-needed way. Many of our neighbors find themselves in a medical predicament. Often current health assistance programs are over-whelmed and at capacity with appointment times unavailable for three months. This causes emergency rooms to be flooded with acute illness versus true life threatening emergencies. Although, an acute illness gone uncared for and a lack of nutrition will soon weaken a child or adult and be compounded by becoming a chronic illness such as diabetes or heart disease.

In an effort to address these needs Shepherd Community Center opened a free neighborhood Health Clinic on Saturday, March 3rd . The clinic is open 3 Saturdays each month from 9:00 – 12:00. Check our calendar for exact dates. The Clinic is currently treating short-term illnesses and health problems such as ear infections, bronchitis, etc.

We have several doctors, nurses, pharmacists and administrative staff who have volunteered their time and skills. Volunteers are also always on hand to baby-sit, guide visitors and patients through the Clinic and to provide breakfast!

The long term goal is to continue to provide for acute care needs but also to move into specialized areas such as; pre-natal care, primary care, pediatrics, chronic disease management, preventative medicine, health education, and lab services.

We rejoiced as we opened the doors to our new clinic because poverty is much more than an empty stomach.
