Project Jordan
In 2005, a baby girl was born in Indianapolis. Born at a disadvantage and to a mother who truly needed assistance, this beautiful little girl helped us recognize the need to offer support and help to parents and their babies. Not just assistance to those who need help out of a difficult situation, but an ongoing, positive program to help mothers and fathers provide a head start for their children and a better life for themselves by helping them become the parents they want to be.
Project Jordan is built on a parent’s love for his or her child and our commitment to come alongside and provide resources for both parents and their babies. This program is by personal invitation only at this time. We believe parents are the best teachers for their children and that given the right resources, those we invite can become great parents and wonderful teachers.
Through this program we offer:
- Well baby health care classes
- Free child medical assessments
- Improvements to children’s physical and mental development
- Enhancement of a child’s readiness for school
- Individual help and support in-home
- Support groups
- Periodic Parent’s Day Out
Did you know?
- Children learn more in the first three years of life than at any other time.
- Most of children’s learning takes place through interaction with their parents.
- Talking and reading to children can increase their IQ.
For these reasons, we developed Project Jordan for expectant parents and parents with children up to three years of age. Through this program, children are involved with Shepherd Community Center from birth through high school graduation.
