2011 Summer EXCEL Program
The name stands for Embracing Excellence and Committing to Education for Life, and it reflects the educational emphasis of our summer programs. But don't worry, there's enough fun to keep 'em coming back for more.
When summer is here, there is a place not far from here where kids and parents worry about what summer brings. These families live in extreme conditions where things like food, fun, and even safety cannot be taken for granted. Many of them are not only wondering what they’ll do during summer vacation, but what they’ll eat! Because of poverty in the household, many of these kids count on receiving most of their meals at school. In response, we'll serve more than 16,000 meals this summer.
Kids need a safe place to go in the summer where they can play, learn, relax and have fun. This summer Shepherd Community Center provides all that and more for 200 kids in our community.
Children, pre-school through High School, can attend a 9-week summer camp every day from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm.

It’ll cost ‘em. Each child has to pay his or her own way -- $1.00 a week.
These kids will learn valuable money skills, but we obviously will need your help!
Only $85.00 will send one child to Summer Day Camp for a week; $675 will keep a child in camp for the entire summer.
These kids will be working hard to earn that dollar. Send your money to camp this summer, and then have fun, sit back and relax. Your money will be hard at play.
