The Face of Love
Monday, November 3rd, 2008I saw the face of love the other day. It didn’t look quite what I thought it would… it looked much differently from what it has looked in the past. This face of love, it was swollen, busted and bruised. Not the pretty look that Hollywood says is love. It wouldn’t be described as beautiful, yet love was all over it.
This face, a young boy, just barely older than 10, who loved his mother and siblings enough… to take the beating, while they were able to escape. To “lay down is life for a friend(and family)”. Yes, that face was a face of love. As I spoke to him, I thought of the numerous times we have been frustrated with this face. Yet today, I felt shallow and small in the presence of this face of love.
Some days I mistakenly think I am here to teach these kids, here to show them God. Yet I am the student, I am the one taught.
Do I love in that manner? Is my face a face of love? Let this young boy’s face challenge you and allow yourself to be taught by this love. ”What the world needs now, is love sweet love.” His kind of love! God’s kind of love.
