Frustrating situation

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Okay, so I finally share with you the frustration from a very awesome trip to Atlanta. This trip, which our middle and high schoolers earn through good grades and good behavior, is a wonderful time of living life together for seven days.

We had a great time at a Braves game, CNN, Coca Cola Museum, Stone Mountain, Martin Luther King Museum, and a lot more.

But one situation demonstrated how far we still have to come in America. We go to a local attraction, that included miniature golf, go karts, inside games, and was to include two pieces of pizza.

Here is where the story goes wrong. This location decides to split our pieces of pizza in two. So the student got two pieces that weren’t even an inch wide. Why? There is where one begins to wonder. Here is a racially diverse group who is comprised of out of town inner city students. Does that have anything to do with it? I wonder. Yet, after passionately arguing the point, the manager on duty chose to just laugh at our students.

Others who came and ordered pizzas got normal sizes, but not us… we got laughed at. Of course we had already paid.

I have discussed this at length with the company, who will not apologize. They say it is corporate policy, and that they would give us three dollars a person back, from the eighteen people we paid for.

What I wanted was an apology to our students. What bothers me is the words that a couple of students said to me, when I was so angry… “Don’t worry, we’re used to it.”

So if you would like to contact this company and express your displeasure… email me and I will send you their contact information.

We have much work to be done.

Sorry

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Sorry I didn’t post each day as I thought I would. But 48 middle and high schoolers on the bus with adults can wear out anyone. It was a great trip.

The evening sharing times, lives were changed.

Thanks to everyone who made it possible to go…

One bad situation developed… but I will write more about the mistreatment of our students later.
